I read an article couple of years ago that said “a project aims to transplant a human brain into a robot body within 10 years”. This hi-tech research project is called “Avatar” lead by Russian entrepreneur Dimitry Itskov.

Mind uploading to a machine ? Oh, not machine I should use the word “Robot”. Yes Robot is a machine but machine is not a robot. So human minds could be downloaded into robots. That will allow human beings to live forever. Itskov has a belief of ‘American Dream’. That is, If you put all your energy and time into something, you can make it a reality. Exciting indeed.

However mind uploading or Whole Brain Emulation (WBE) is a hypothetical process of copying mental content from a particular mental substrate and placing it to a computational device. Imagine it is you who is allowing to do the whole process. After the process a robot with all your conscience is standing in front of you. Will it be you? Yourself? Don’t forget that your brain was copied from you.

I don’t think in this way mankind will achieve immortality. But it will give us enormous opportunities no doubt. We will be able to go into other planets which are light years away from us. Yes, we will get bodies which do not age. It will give us unlimited time to do everything that we want in life. No rush whatsoever.

As I said earlier, this process of uploading conscience of one into a robot is not exactly an immortality. It’s more like creating a clone or duplicate. Human brain with a synthetic body sounds interesting but this body will never experience the sensation of touching, kissing, having sex or tasting food. May be we’re going to experience the future of earth, where robots with human brain will rule the world. Or the universe ? not impossible.
